JGYD What Is A Watch Party & How Do I Host One?

As the global advisory council created the first ever Jesus Global Youth Day event, we had one mission in mind: to bring teens from around the world together to worship Him.

When the Philippines was chosen as the host country for this global event, we wanted a way to bring the inspiring messages and uplifting worship to every youth group in the world, especially those that can’t travel. So, we decided to broadcast the event highlights.

Bring the Philippines to your home church and youth group by hosting a watch party!

What Is A Watch Party?

WATCH-PARTY Noun(plural watch parties)

A social gathering for the purpose of watching a specific event or program on television.

Now that you know what a watch party is, you’re probably wondering the best way to host one so that your youth group leaves the event full of inspiration, motivation, and excitement about the love of Jesus Christ.

Use These 5 Tips To Help You & Your Church Host A Fun JGYD Watch Party

  • Serve up easy-to-make, easy-to-eat snacks

Offering a few snacks and beverages is a great way to ensure that everyone is comfortable and ready to listen to the important event messages. Just be sure that the snacks you offer aren’t too messy to eat so that kids can focus on the main message of the event. Popcorn is always a great option!

Pro tip: If you’re looking for a fun way to bring a little bit of Filipino culture to this event, consider purchasing a sampling of Filipino snacks from Amazon!

  • Ensure there is plenty of comfortable seating

Imagine sitting to watch an inspiring event filled with amazing performers and speakers…but all you can think about is how uncomfortable you are because there isn’t enough room for everyone! Don’t let this happen at your event. Make sure that everyone will have enough space to enjoy the event comfortably. (Bean bag chairs and cozy couches are recommended but not required!)

  • Check your connection beforehand

Make sure you check your cables and connections before your youth group arrives. You don’t want to have a room full of disappointed event goers if the tv or cables won’t work! This tip will help ensure that your event goes off without a hitch.

  • Consider Adding A Fun Theme To The Party

Why not make a whole event around the watch party? Consider choosing a fun and easy-to-pull-off theme to really wow your youth group and get them excited.

Pro tip: a travel related theme could work really well for your JGYD watch party with passport invitations, airplane decorations, a DIY travel-themed photobooth, and Filipino snacks!

  • Create Ways To Connect

Strengthen the relationship of your youth group through this event by creating fun ways for the teens to bond. Out of ideas? Check Pinterest for “Youth Group Bonding Ideas” and you’ll find tons of free printables and ideas for games and ice breakers.
